Injury Report, September 14

8 ranked players had an injury reported in the last day.

Team medical staffs and beat reporters moved 8 ranked players in the last day. This is the ranked-only list, an injury to someone the board does not carry is not a fantasy decision, so those are left out, ordered by the value actually at risk rather than by when it was reported.

What the reports say

JJ Wetherholt: Wetherholt (wrist) will hit off a pitching machine Monday before going through a full pregame workout Tuesday, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Matt McLain: McLain (shoulder) remains out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Dodgers.

Carlos Correa: The Astros are considering playing Correa (ankle) some at second base when he returns from the 60-day injured list, Ken Rosenthal of Foul Territory TV reports.

Devin Williams: Williams (shoulder) threw a live batting practice session Monday and will face hitters again Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Blaze Jordan: Jordan (ankle) has progressed to jogging and fielding grounders, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Kris Bubic: Bubic (shoulder) will join the Dodgers in Cincinnati on Monday but will not be activated from the 60-day injured list immediately, Maddie Lee of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Luis Severino: Severino (shoulder) logged a bullpen session Saturday and is expected to have a normal offseason, per MLB.com.

Robert Suarez: Suarez (elbow) faced live hitters Sunday, throwing 15 pitches and touching 98 mph with his fastball, Jesus Cano of The Athletic reports. "I was very encouraged," manager Walt Weiss said afterward. "To be honest with you, I wasn't expecting that. I thought he kind of eased into it, but he let it go, and it was…

The calls

Hold, rosterable value, short-term IL: JJ Wetherholt

Bench, day-to-day and replaceable: Matt McLain

Droppable, 60-day IL and below roster-relevant value: Carlos Correa, Devin Williams, Blaze Jordan, Kris Bubic, Luis Severino, Robert Suarez

How to read this

The verdicts are the engine's, not a hot take, and the cutoffs come from the board rather than from taste: value 295 is the top 5% of ranked players, and value 134 is roughly the 300th-ranked player, the last man rostered in a 12-team league. Above 295 nobody drops anyone; below 134 the player is a free agent in most formats whether he is hurt or not.

Status is the IL designation itself, which is the only honest signal of length available: the feed carries no return dates and no estimated timelines at all, both fields are empty on every record, so anyone quoting a return date is guessing. A 60-day placement is the club saying months; a 10-day is a fortnight.

Value is the replacement-adjusted number the boards sort on, so it answers the only question that matters here: how much is actually at stake. A high-value name on a short absence is usually a hold; a mid-value name on a long one is where roster spots get decided.
