Injury Report, August 16

11 ranked players had an injury reported in the last day.

Team medical staffs and beat reporters moved 11 ranked players in the last day. This is the ranked-only list, an injury to someone the board does not carry is not a fantasy decision, so those are left out, ordered by the value actually at risk rather than by when it was reported.

What the reports say

Trea Turner: Turner is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins while he contends with a bruised right knee and ankle, MLB.com reports.

Jacob deGrom: Imaging on deGrom's injured right triceps Saturday revealed positive news, but the right-hander may not make his next scheduled start, Theo DeRosa of MLB.com reports.

Cody Bellinger: Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that Bellinger (hamstring) will begin a minor-league rehab assignment Tuesday and could be activated from the 10-day injured list by next weekend, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Masataka Yoshida: The Red Sox are expected to place Yoshida (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list prior to Sunday's game against the Pirates, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Colin Holderman: Holderman was removed from Saturday's game with right wrist inflammation, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. He pitched a scoreless two-thirds of an inning and hit a batter in a 6-1 win over San Diego.

Jack Leiter: Leiter (ankle) could be activated this week if Jacob deGrom (triceps) is unavailable to make his next scheduled start, Theo DeRosa of MLB.com reports.

Jordan Lawlar: Lawlar (hamstring) went 1-for-4 with a walk, a home run and two RBI for Double-A Amarillo on Saturday.

Justin Slaten: The Red Sox placed Slaten on the 15-day injured list Sunday.

Félix Bautista: Bautista (shoulder) could begin a minor-league rehab assignment in late August, per MLB.com.

Tanner Banks: Banks (forearm) has progressed to throwing bullpen sessions, per MLB.com.

Drew Millas: Millas (finger) completed throwing from 90 feet, took dry swings on each side of the plate and hit off a tee approximately 20 times from each side during a comprehensive workout Friday, MLB.com reports.

The calls

Hold, day-to-day, not an IL move: Trea Turner, Jacob deGrom, Cody Bellinger

Bench, day-to-day and replaceable: Colin Holderman

Droppable, below the ~300th-ranked player, i.e. a free agent in most leagues: Masataka Yoshida, Jack Leiter, Jordan Lawlar, Justin Slaten, Félix Bautista, Tanner Banks, Drew Millas

How to read this

The verdicts are the engine's, not a hot take, and the cutoffs come from the board rather than from taste: value 295 is the top 5% of ranked players, and value 134 is roughly the 300th-ranked player, the last man rostered in a 12-team league. Above 295 nobody drops anyone; below 134 the player is a free agent in most formats whether he is hurt or not.

Status is the IL designation itself, which is the only honest signal of length available: the feed carries no return dates and no estimated timelines at all, both fields are empty on every record, so anyone quoting a return date is guessing. A 60-day placement is the club saying months; a 10-day is a fortnight.

Value is the replacement-adjusted number the boards sort on, so it answers the only question that matters here: how much is actually at stake. A high-value name on a short absence is usually a hold; a mid-value name on a long one is where roster spots get decided.
