Injury Report, September 26

10 ranked players had an injury reported in the last day.

Team medical staffs and beat reporters moved 10 ranked players in the last day. This is the ranked-only list, an injury to someone the board does not carry is not a fantasy decision, so those are left out, ordered by the value actually at risk rather than by when it was reported.

What the reports say

Oneil Cruz: Cruz is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Cardinals.

Chandler Simpson: Simpson went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's 5-1 win over the Red Sox.

Xavier Edwards: Edwards (thumb) isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Atlanta.

Joey Ortiz: Ortiz (abdomen) will start at shortstop and bat sixth in Wednesday's game versus the Phillies.

Kyle Stowers: Stowers is not in the lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta.

Nathan Church: Church was out of Friday's lineup in Milwaukee due to lingering soreness in his foot, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Josh Jung: The Rangers placed Jung on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a fractured right hand.

Andrés Muñoz: The Mariners placed Munoz on the 15-day injured list Friday with right knee inflammation.

Jeff Hoffman: Hoffman allowed a run on two walks and struck out one in a hitless inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Giants.

Kerry Carpenter: The Tigers announced Friday that Carpenter (foot) has ramped up his running and hitting progression with the hope of returning from the injured list before the end of the season, MLB.com reports.

The calls

Hold, day-to-day, not an IL move: Oneil Cruz, Chandler Simpson, Xavier Edwards, Joey Ortiz

Bench, day-to-day and replaceable: Kyle Stowers, Nathan Church

Droppable, below the ~300th-ranked player, i.e. a free agent in most leagues: Josh Jung, Andrés Muñoz, Jeff Hoffman, Kerry Carpenter

How to read this

The verdicts are the engine's, not a hot take, and the cutoffs come from the board rather than from taste: value 295 is the top 5% of ranked players, and value 134 is roughly the 300th-ranked player, the last man rostered in a 12-team league. Above 295 nobody drops anyone; below 134 the player is a free agent in most formats whether he is hurt or not.

Status is the IL designation itself, which is the only honest signal of length available: the feed carries no return dates and no estimated timelines at all, both fields are empty on every record, so anyone quoting a return date is guessing. A 60-day placement is the club saying months; a 10-day is a fortnight.

Value is the replacement-adjusted number the boards sort on, so it answers the only question that matters here: how much is actually at stake. A high-value name on a short absence is usually a hold; a mid-value name on a long one is where roster spots get decided.
