5 bullpens have no clear owner of the ninth. Where the saves are actually gettable.
Saves are the category most often decided by a role rather than a skill, so this is the standing read on all 30 bullpens rather than a reaction to any one blown save. CCS is the closer-confidence score: save share over the last 30 and 14 days, leverage, role history, skills and usage. The number that matters is not any single arm's score but the GAP between the top two.
No arm has separated. These are the bullpens worth speculating in, because the cost of the second-best arm is near zero and the payoff if he takes the job is a full closer.

Start with the line that makes no sense on its face. Mitch Farris carries a closer-confidence of 74, which puts him in the same band as Chapman and Beeter, and the projection gives him 2.3 saves. Nothing else in the table has that shape. Confidence measures who gets the ninth; the save total measures how often the ninth is worth having. Farris owns the job and the job is nearly empty. That is a claim about the Angels handing out very few leads, and it is the one number here I would treat as close to unarguable, because the alternative reading is that a 74 is wrong, and every other 72-to-77 arm in the table sits between 16 and 22 projected saves. Do not claim him. If you already have him, he is a Saturday streamer at best.
Devin Williams is the version of that shape you should actually argue about. A 79 is a locked ninth, and 11.7 saves is the lowest total attached to any confidence above 76 outside Anaheim. Williams is not being docked for role. He is being docked for opportunity, and the case against the projection is that Mets leads are not scarce the way Angels leads are. If you think this is a volume estimate built on too little information, Williams is the buy: same job security as Iglesias at 20.3, less than sixty percent of the saves. I lean toward believing the engine has him right on role and wrong on volume, which makes him the best trade target in the locked group, because his price is set by the save total and his value is set by the 79.
Among the committees, Kansas City and Pittsburgh are the two that resolve, and they resolve the same way. Alex Lange at 59 sits fourteen points clear of Steven Cruz, and Lucas Erceg at 22 with zero projected saves is already out of the conversation. That is not a committee, it is a lead. Soto's 53 over Montgomery's 42 is the softer version of the same gap. Claim Lange first: 11.1 saves from a committee arm is what a full-time job looks like once the manager stops pretending, and the projection is essentially splitting the difference between Lange closing and Lange sharing. The falsifier is clean. If Cruz gets the next two save chances with Lange available and rested, the read is dead and you drop him inside a week.
Chicago is the committee I would leave alone. Zeferjahn at 34, Webb at 33 and Thornton at 29 is three arms inside five points, and the projected saves split 6.5, 5.7, 3.1. Nobody there is worth a roster spot in a twelve-team league, and the honest thing to say is that the data does not show which way it breaks. Baltimore is nearly as flat, though Kittredge's 9.6 saves against Cano's 3.9 gives you one arm to hold if you need the speculative shot.
San Francisco is the cheap claim. JT Brubaker's 50 is modest, but Smith at 22 and Winn at 21 are both projected for zero, so there is no second arm to lose the job to. Seven saves is not exciting. It is also the largest gap between the top arm and the field in any non-locked bullpen, which is exactly the condition under which a 50 grows.
The cost of being wrong on Lange or Brubaker is one bench slot for ten days. The cost of being wrong on Farris is a month of empty innings.
The cutoffs are calibrated to the league, not picked: across the 30 bullpens the top arm's CCS runs from 34 to 82 with a median of 74, so a leader in the 70s with 25-plus points of daylight is a real closer, while a leader in the 40s and 50s with company right behind him is a committee whatever the depth chart says.
Proj SV is the engine's expected saves for the rest of the season, which is the number to trade on, season saves are already banked and tell you about the past. A committee arm with meaningful projected saves is the cheapest source of the scarcest category in the game.

Recency weighting: prior seasons contribute by recency (more recent = more weight) and sample size (more PA = more weight).
Shrinkage: observed rates regress toward position-specific population means by an amount inversely proportional to sample size. Catches small-sample outliers.
Quality-of-contact adjustments: xwOBA, barrel rate, and bat-tracking metrics replace luck-driven outcome stats with skill-driven ones.
PT modeling: projected PA is anchored to workload tier (full-time, regular, platoon, backup catcher) using historical role distributions.
Monte Carlo: N simulated seasons per player using projected mean + uncertainty, producing P10 / P50 / P90 distribution and bust%.
Confidence layers: four orthogonal multipliers: Roster (depth chart), Role (PT certainty), Sample (career PA), Market (consensus alignment). The Audit tab shows all four for every player.
VAR: Value Above Replacement at the player's primary position. Replacement levels are floored per position so SS scarcity doesn't artificially inflate stable middle infielders.
